The school Lunch Program will return to charging meals for the upcoming school year 2022-2023. In the last two years, there have been nationwide programs in place to allow students to receive free meals. The new Keep Kids Fed Act that was just passed does not allow all students to eat school meals free of charge in school year 2022-2023.
As a result of Keep Kids Fed Act, Cassia County Jt. School District, we will be returning to the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast program. This change will require the school district to return to collecting and gathering the free and reduced meal applications. Families will need to complete an application through their school to determine if their household is eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, as was done before the pandemic. In addition, filling out the free and reduced-price meal applications also provides our district access to grants, technology, and funding to support learning for students.
The application for free and reduced only needs to be filled out once per family per year. If you need a paper application, the student’s school will have paper copies of the application starting July 1st. There will also be an online application that families can fill out when they do their returning student registration. Please remember the Cassia County School Lunch Program only needs one copy per family, you don’t need to fill it out for each child within the online registration.
